Graphic Floral Stripes Nail Art

Today will be my first time participating in one of these but I'm excited! I have decided to take part in The Busy Girl's Summer Nail Art Challenge which was created by @beautybykrystal, @drinkcitra, @mirandasmakeup and @beautybyarielle on instagram.

Basically this is a weekly challenge that can be posted any time during that week (you can also skip weeks). Ill be posting my nails on my instagram using the hashtag #busygirlnails so if you prefer to see them there make sure you're following me. This week's theme was stripes!

These nails refused to photograph (or even edit) well but I had a lot of fun doing them! They're fun without being too over-the-top.
I wasn't inspired by anything in particular when doing this design but I have a feeling this has been done before so if it has it's purely coincidental!
For this manicure I used black and white acrylic paint along with a nail art brush for the striped base. Then, using a small nail art brush, I created the rose pattern along the top of each nail using a variety of colors (just ask if you'd like specific names!). I drew leaves on only two fingers for a more unique look, I used Essie Mojito Madness for those and lightened it for the lighter green. Essie Matte About You was applied to create the matte finish.

I loooove today's manicure! What do you think? Too much or just right?

Friday Poll: Tag- 15 Weird Facts

TGIF! Dori (from Kiss My Acetone) is doing something a little different this week with the Friday Poll so I thought I'd copy her and do this tag too.  (;

1. What’s a nickname only your family calls you?
My family doesn't have a nickname for me.

2. What’s a weird habit of yours?
Alright, I've mentioned this before but when I am going to bed I will check and double check that my bedroom door and all bedroom windows/blinds are closed and shut tight. I can't sleep any other way.

3. Do you have any weird phobias?
Well, I have a fear of throwing up. Emetophobia. I have not vomited since I was a baby and even then I was too young to remember. I just assume that I threw up as a baby. The thought of food going up my throat and out of my mouth horrifies me! I'd rather ride a tortoise (I'm also scared of oversized animals) than throw up! I mean, does it hurt? Can you even breathe? It just seems really, really scary!

4. What’s a song you secretly love to blast and belt out when you’re alone?
Set Fire to the Rain by Adele, whenever I get home from school I go straight to this song!

5. What’s one of your biggest pet peeves?
When people stare, I just want to go over there and punch their eyes out. It's insanely annoying.

6. What’s one of your nervous habits?
Over thinking. I really need to deal with it because when I get nervous and anxious I overreact, over think and I start to panic. And then I bottle up my feelings and it turns out to be a huge mess.

7. What side of the bed do you sleep on?
On the very edge of the right side of the bed. As in, if you're looking from the foot of the bed.

8. What was your first stuffed animal and its name?
If I could remember, I would tell you. That was forever ago.

9. What’s the drink you always order at Starbucks?
I don't know, a Vanilla Frappuccino I guess. I like to keep it simple.

10. What’s the beauty rule you preach, but never actually practice?
Tugging at my eyes. I know I shouldn't but sometimes it's easier to apply eyeliner that way!

11. Which way do you face in the shower?
Towards the shower head. It feels refreshing.

12. Do you have any weird body skills?
Nope.

13. What’s your favorite comfort food that’s “bad”, but you love to eat it anyway?
At the top of my head I would say candy. It's weird...I don't have a sweet tooth for cakes, cupcakes and that sort of thing but candy I could eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner!

14. What’s a phrase or exclamation you always say?
I'm so boring, I don't say anything worth telling.

15. Time to sleep – what are you actually wearing?
Silk pajama bottoms (they're so comfortable!) and a tee shirt.

This is still Friday Poll so I'm tagging all of you! Feel free to copy and paste your answers in the comments. I really want to hear your answers on this one!

The Mixed Giraffe

Hello, hello!

I just came back from Ulta where I found.....wait for it.......Orly Space Cadet! I couldn't even get my words out when I found it, I was like "Mom, I, I...look..I ..found...Mom....its...Space....Cadet!

I have mentioned wanting this SO many times. Just search "Space Cadet" in the search box and you will see all the posts where I have mentioned this beauty and now I have it, sitting right next to me!

It's weird, I've been stalking Ulta for close to 8 months hoping with some miracle I'd find it and today it was just randomly sitting out right in the front of all the other Orlys!

Anyway, this is the manicure I created for PAA, the theme this Monday is Animals/Animal Print.

For this manicure I used two coats of Wet N Wild Bite The Bullet as the base. I used my nail art brush and created the spots using Zoya Petra from the new Smoke collection. I finished off with Seche Vite top coat.

I called this The Mixed Giraffe because it was meant to be giraffe print, but it also ended up looking like cow print. But I still like it.

Alright, that's it, I'm off to play with Space Cadet!

Funky Checkers

Another Monday means another PAA theme! This week we created tape manicures.

The weeks are just flying by, it feels like Wednesdays turn into Fridays and Saturdays turn into Mondays. Seriously, it's crazy how fast things are moving!

For this manicure I used Love Polish's Checkered with a Twist" tutorial to help me create this look.

The placement of the tape really confused me at first, but her tutorial is really great so it shouldn't be too hard to understand.

For this manicure I used Nicole by OPI Light a Candle and Zoya Marley. I did half my nail in each color, just like Love Polish's first step. Then I applied one coat of Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat to speed up the drying process. After about 30 minutes I applied the tape, like Love Polish shows, and painted over it using Zoya Jem to form my first set of checkers. Then I laid down my second piece of tape and painted over that using Rimmel London Black Satin. After I completed all the steps and fixed any mistakes I applied another coat of Seche Vite Fast Dry Top Coat.

Like I said, this was really hard for me at first but Love Polish's tutorial was very helpful and explained everything really well.

She has one of my favorite blogs and her tutorials are all amazing. I definitely recommend checking out her blog, especially if you love tape manicures.

I just came back from Sally's Beauty Supply about an hour ago. They still have a lot of Fingerpaints on clearance for $1.99 and also they have a coupon out where you can get a free Fingerpaints polish with any purchase.

Just thought I'd let you all know, have a great day!

Pineapples

It's Monday! Which means that it's a new theme in PAA. This Monday's theme is fruit.

Now back to the manicure!

I had to watch a few tutorials on Youtube before I could get the shape of the pineapples to come out right, but I think I finally got it! It's the smaller details I had trouble with.

Anyway, here's what the final outcome looks like....

For this manicure I used OPI Sparrow Me the Drama as the base. Then, using a cosmetic sponge, I sponged on Wet N Wild Candy-licious to my thumb, middle and pinky. Afterwards I sponged on Kleancolor V.I.P. (my new favorite glitter!) over Candy-licious. The pineapples were made using Butterfly Jungle and then China Glaze Starboard for the leaves. I mixed in some black to darken it up.

You may have noticed that I shortened my nails. I was getting really tired of the length. At this length, I'm more carefree and don't have to worry about breaking a nail every minute of the day! I do miss doing nail art on longer nails though, it's like a bigger canvas.

Well thats it, see you in my next post!

Poppies

Week two of the new Monday Nail Art Challenge I'm participating in!

This week was much more challenging than last week's polka dots. When I hear the words "floral" I get kind of scared. It's a lot more difficult than it sounds, at least for me. I've done floral before but they are always simple, dotted daisies.

I actually attempted two different designs but the first one was a huge fail. I wanted to do something a bit different than I normally do so I watched some Youtube videos for inspiration and came up with this!

This beautiful design is inspired by this video from Robin Moses.

The red is so bright, my camera freaked out. Apologies.

For this manicure I used Orly Ancient Jade as the base. I drew the stems with China Glaze Starboard and then the poppies were made with China Glaze Hey Sailor and a nail art brush. I added in the yellow dots with Essence Mellow Yellow. The clouds were made using Wet n Wild Shiver.

Very simple, but I really like it! Robin Moses's designs are incredible. No matter what she does, it always impresses me. If you've been living under a rock and don't know who she is, check out her Youtube channel here.

Dots, Dots, And More Dots

Today's manicure is part of a new challenge I am taking part in. On the Facebook group, Polish-aholics Anonymous, we are creating nail art based on what the theme for the week is. For this Monday, the theme was polka dots! Next week's theme will probably be announced soon, so if you want to join in on the action, join the group. You'll love it!

Now for the manicure, I think this has to be the easiest nail art I have done. It was also really fun to create.

For this manicure I used Essence No More Drama, a light lavender purple, and Ulta Bam-Blue-Zled, a light periwinkle blue, as the bases. I applied one coat of Seche Vite topcoat so it would dry then, using a cosmetic sponge, I sponged on Nicole by OPI Party in the Penthouse to the blue nails and Butterfly Single to the purple nails. As usual, I used a toothpick for the dots. I alternated between white dots and the same colors I used for the bases.

In total, this manicure probably took me 10 minutes. I finished with Seche Vite so it dried in a matter of minutes.

Oh, and I'm getting dotting tools soon! Exciting.

Chris's Challenge

I've been seeing this tag going around and of course I wanted to get in on the action!

1. Go to your lacquer stash.
2. Close your eyes and pull 3 random items - JUST 3!
3. Create a mani from them.
4. Post your mani.
5. Tag 3 bloggers.

So I pulled out three amazing colors- Ulta Pinata Yada Yada (glitter), Ulta Bam-Blue-Zilled (blue base-indivual post coming soon for this color) and Revlon Midnight Affair. I stamped with Midnight Affair and it turned out to be very sheer but other than that I really liked this mani, and as you can see from the tip wear, I liked it so much I wore it for about four days.

I'm not going to tag anyone specific, instead I tag anyone who would like to do this tag. It's so much fun!

P.S. The stamp plate I used was from Essence's stamp plates, they don't have names.

Nail Polish Tag

I came across this tag on one of my favorite blogs and I had no choice but to do it. I changed it up a bit, just...'cause.

If you are a nail polish fanatic, you'll understand why these tags are so hard to pass up.

Let's get into it, shall we...?

How many polishes do you have in your stash?
As of right now, I have 65. I'll be adding to that soon though. I just can't control myself. My goal is to have at least 100 by June or July of this year.

Which brand do you own the most of?
Revlon and then would be  Nicole by OPI. I'm a sucker for Nicole by OPI's collections!

What colors do you own the most of?
Definitely reds and pinks. Dark, light, in between.

Do you have a color/texture you do not own?
Of course! I have so many that I don't own. I don't own any mattes and I have only one duo-chrome. I also don't have any holographic finishes.

Whats the one polish you always pick up to lift your spirits?
Anything with glitter. Whether it's chunky or subtle. I need some glitter when my life starts to get dull.

What is the nail polish you wear most frequently?
Rimmel's Green With Envy. I got it three years ago and I've worn it at least ten times since. I just love how bright it is!

What polish do you keep looking at and wondering why you haven't gotten rid of
it yet?

I have three heart-shaped nail polishes I got back when I was around 8 years old. I got them as a gift from my uncle--who I have lost touch with--and never had the guts to throw them out. I never wear them, but I just can't do it.

Stamping vs. Freehand?
Freehand. I love doing nail designs and nail art on my own. It makes me feel so accomplished.

Do you consider your nails naked if they don't have nail polish on?
Yes. I feel so naked with no nail polish on. I'm so weird about this. I feel embarrassed if my nails are polish-less. It's just a strange feeling that I can't explain.

Favorite plate/tool/technique?
I don't have any special plates or tools. But I do love the gradient nail technique. I successfully did this not too long ago. Ombre nails are just gorgeous!

What is your biggest nail pet peeve?
For some reason, it drives me crazy when people do not remove their chipped nail polish. They leave it on for weeks until it goes away on it's own. It just really bothers me...

What is number one on your nail polish wish list?
Orly's Space Cadet. I have been wanting this for months and will cry if I never get my hands on it.
